How is the cold weather in Canada important?

I am doing an essay of the importance of Canadian weather. I am talking about how it is a part of our Canadian identity. How is the cold weather a big part of being Canadian?

  1. In popular culture, its common to see Canadians wearing winter clothes. This is obviously a representation of the fact that Canada is mostly a subarctic climate. Canadians have no choice but to deal with harsh winter conditions. Its one of the determining factors of the lifestyles of the people in Canada.
  2. In Canada, it is cold (not necessarily constantly) from October to April, in most places. Canada has a strong heritage in winter sports; hockey and curling are the big ones. It is part of us... but we do have a lot of hot weather in July and August too, especially in the southern areas. I guess a lot of it is the same reasons why hot weather is important in Mexico.
