What is the difference between acid precipitation and ground-level ozone?

Just a discussion question from my Biology class. I know they're similar but not one in the same. What is the difference between acid precipitation and ground-level ozone?

  1. Ozone is a molecule with three oxygens, as opposed to the dominant oxygen you breath which is O2. Ozone at ground level is bad, but ozone in the upper atmosphere saves all life from UV radiation. Ozone at ground level is formed predominantly by cars, and the number of cars in LA is the driving force behind their ozone/smog problem. Ozone can be formed from heat around any electrical equipment. Acid precipitation is acid rain. It is rain that has a low pH, or higher than normal acidity. Acid rain is formed from sulfur from pollution.
